Assignment Number : BCA (6)-75/Assignment/ 09
Maximum Marks : 25
Last Date of Submission : 30th April, 2009/30th October, 2009

There are five questions in this assignment.  Answer all the questions.  You may use illustrations and diagrams to enhance your explanations.

Q1. Define the term "Intranet".

Ans :
An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet technologies to securely share any part of an organization's information or operational systems with its employess. Sometimes the term refers only to the organization's internal website, but often it is a more extensive part of the organization's computer infrastructure and private websites are an important component and focal point of internal communication and collaboration.
An intranet is built from the same concepts and technologies used for the internet, such as client-server computing and the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). Any of the well known Internet protocols amy be found in an intranet, such as HTTP (web sevices), SMPT (e-mail), and FTP (file transfer). Internet technologies are often deployed to provide modern interfaces to legacy information systems hosting corporate data.

Q2. Define the term "Extranet".
Ans :
An extranet is a private network that uses internet protocols, network connectivity, and possibly the public telecommunication system to securely share part of an organization's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers or other businesses with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers or other businesses. An extranet can be viewed as part of a company's intranet that is extended to users outside the company (e.t. : normally over the internet).

Q3. Explain the difference between internet and intranet.
Ans:
Internet Definition.:-
The Internet is a world wide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer netowrks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard internet protocol of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked web pages and other documents of the world wide web.

Intranet Definition.:-
An intranet is a private computer network that uses Internet protocols, network connectivity to securely share part of an organization's information or operations with its employees, sometime the term refer only to the most visible service, the internal website. The same concepts and technologies of the Internet such as clients and servers running on the Internet protocol suite are used to build as intranet.

Q4. How can it be ensured that the transactions that take place across Intranet are secure? Explain with an example.

UNSOLVED.
Send your Ans. in comment box. below.

Q5. What is Internet Protocol Version 6.0? Explain any two features of it.
Ans:
Internet Protocol Version 6.0 (IPv6) is the next generation Internet layer protocol for packet switched internetworks and the internet. IPv4 is currently the dominat internet protocol version, and was the first to receive widespread use. In December 1998, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) designated Ipv6 as the successor to version 4 by the publication of a standards track specification.
IPv6 has a much larger address space than IPv4. This results from the use of a 128-bit address, where IPv4 uses 32 bits.
Some features or advantages of IPv6.:-
Larger address space, stateless address autoconfiguration, multicast, mandatory network layer security, simplified processing by routers, Mobility, Options extensibility, Jumbograms.
    Multicast :____ Multicast, the ability to send a single packed to multiple destinations is part of the base specification in Ipv6. This is unlike IPv4, where it is optional (although usually implemented);
IPv6 does not implement broadcast, the ability to send a packet to all hosts on the attached link. The same effect can be achieved by sending a packet to the link-local all hosts multicast group.
Options Extensibility :-____ IPv4 has a fixed size(40 bytes) of option parameters. In IPv6, options are implemented as additional extension headers after the IPv6 beader which limits their size only by the size of an entire packet.
